In November, 30 experts from industry and research got together for a pyrolysis workshop at SIM in Oberhausen amidst bright sunshine.
The all-day workshop was shaped by interesting practical presentations and insightful discussions on current fields and applications of pyrolysis. There was, for example, a presentation on how paper additives can be quantified and how suitable methods can be developed and optimized. The application of pyrolysis-GC/MS was the topic of four presentations: quantitative screening of synthetics, pyrolysis of spray coating, characterization of lignin and pyrolysis on coking coal.
The Japanese company Frontier Laboratories Ltd. – a leading supplier of pyrolysis systems in analytics and partner of SIM – presented their latest pyrolysis systems at the workshop. It was vividly demonstrated, that the new model of the pyrolyser PY3030D had higher heating and cooling rates by factor 3. Furthermore the new pyrolysis furnace offers a broad range of temperatures up to 1.050⁰C.
The day was round off by an active exchange of experiences between the participants of BASF, Clariant, Evonik, BYK Chemie, Ruhr University Bochum, DOW, Dresden Technical University, Thyssen Krupp Steel, University of Hamburg and the BKA Wiesbaden.
