Webinar on the new 3-MCPD Analyzer
SIM has added the 3-MCPD analyzer to its product portfolio, which enables the fully automated determination of 3-monochlorpropanediol (3-MCPD), 2-monochlorpropanediol (2-MCDP), glycidol, and their fatty acid esters in foodstuffs. The background is a current 3-MCPD risk assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) from January 2018, which is focused heavily on this analysis. In February 2018, the maximum levels for 3-monochlorpropanediol (3-MCPD) and glycidyl fatty acid esters were revised in an EU regulation (EU 2018/290).
The esters are hydrolized in the human body; the resulting glycidol is carcinogenic and 3-MCPD toxic for kidney and testes. Therefore, high-performance analysis is required to detect an increased proportion of these substances in foodstuffs. The "DGF C-VI 18(10)" method was modified by the company Axel Semrau® so that sample preparation and sample introduction into the GC/MS system can run automatically (DGF Fast & Clean).
The 3-MCPD analyzer by SIM is based on a modular design of the analysis system: an Agilent 7890 GC/TQ MS is combined with a PAL 3 autosampler and the CHRONOS software by Axel Semrau® to form an analyzer. This enables fast and time-saving analysis compared to conventional methods with manual sample preparation.
The webinar provides information on the automated workflow using the DGF method for illustration: it shows the use of the CHRONECT® Robotic dual-head automation by Axel Semrau® and the analysis with the Agilent GC/MS system as well as the combination of all work steps in one process.
