SIM at "praxis4u"
On September 18, 2018 SIM supported "praxis4u", an initiative for vocational orientation of students in STEM professions. Our employee Niklas Vogel presented the field of the precision mechanic (industrial mechanic, specialization precision engineering) in our company.
Niklas Vogel presented the function of a precision mechanic at SIM by using the SIM-Gripper as an example. It was designed as a flexible transport solution for the PAL 3 autosampler. Based on the technical drawing and the individual parts from which the SIM-Gripper is composed, the students were shown how these precision workpieces are produced by hand in our production in Oberhausen. Interested students were given the opportunity to get practical themselves. The 3D printer that was used to print the gripping elements on site was also met with great interest.
The orientation day for students from grade 8 and upwards was organized by zdi (center mint4u Bottrop) and the Oberhausen Economic and Tourism Development Agency (OWT) and offered an insight into technically-oriented training occupations. Particularly in view of the skilled labor shortage in this field, the appeal of STEM occupations was demonstrated to the students.
